We woke up and started the day with some Hawaiian coffee at the house before we went over to a little shopping mall in Poipu to have Matthew’s bent sunglasses fixed, and as we always seem to do when we are out and about together, we made a new friend.

This time, our new friend was the manager, Ikaika, who was born and raised on the island and just recently returned from law school at Columbia. (Apparently working at a Sunglass Hut in paradise beats being a paralegal in NYC. Not sure we blame him at all!) Ikaika gave us some tips, so we’re going to spend the rest of the time here checking them out. We would both much rather explore based on tips from friends and locals than guide books.

We packed up the jeep and went over to Shipwreck Cove for the day, did a little boogie boarding and just had a beach day. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon! After that we came back to the house and walked up to Kalapaki Joe’s for happy hour before watching the sunset from Poipu Beach.
